This book provides a look back to the great days of the '50s and what it was like for one boy (that would be me) and his friends to grow up in Los Gatos during that unforgettable decade.
While not getting deep into the history of Los Gatos or detailed descriptions of the area, an impression of a boy's life back then will come through in the variety of juvenile escapades.
The stories are meant strictly for entertainment and light reading, but it is my hope that the events described will generate memories in readers who shared that decade with me and, at the same time, provide a "keyhole" for younger readers to take a peek into the world that my generation experienced.
There was a lot of fun to be had in the '50s!

Folsom Parallax (An abridged version of Granite Veil)
A Novel by Ralph Higgins
A Story of Murder, Vengeance, Prison, and Redemption
Folsom Parallax is now available on Amazon's Kindle Books.
Electronic books are the wave of the future. These "Kindle" books are no longer limited to the Kindle device. You can purchase a book at a very low price and download it to your computer or mobile device to read, save, print or whatever you desire.
Folsom Parallax can be purchased for only $2.99 on Amazon under Kindle books.
Folsom Parallax is a novel that follows two paths to its ultimate conclusion; a murder mystery and a change in one man's world view. Folsom Parallax is the story of Steve Sanford, a wealthy real estate entrepreneur from Los Gatos, California, who lives in an elegant home on Overlook Road. After his wife is brutally murdered, Steve’s grief turns to vengeance and retribution. Thus begins a journey that ends in Folsom Prison.
Cell Block #5 was the surprising catalyst for the paradigm shift in Steve’s thinking and the irony that it was within the granite prison walls that Steve was able to see beyond his confinement to ultimate truth and true freedom.
“Parallax” comes from the Greek meaning “alteration,” and relates to the change in position of an observer to the object observed. In this case it relates metaphorically to Steve’s intellectual metamorphosis as a result of an alteration in his worldview.
There is a degree of violence, retribution and much intrigue in the story. In the course of seeking revenge Steve finds himself the target of killers from the streets of Miami. The hunter suddenly becomes the prey.
Steve ultimately finds himself incarcerated in Folsom Prison during the most violent decade in the history of the prison. Even within the prison walls there is a price on Steve’s head and an unknown killer waiting to strike. Meanwhile a beautiful woman waits for him outside the prison walls. The action ends with an interesting twist at the end.
The descriptions of the prison and the activities inside Folsom are the result of a personal tour provided to me by the prison administration, so scenes inside the prison and Cell Block #5 are authentic.
Most of the action takes place in Los Gatos, Miami, and Folsom Prison. (According to all accounts, this is a "good read.")

(Note: If you have read Granite Veil there is no reason to purchase Parallax, which tells the same story minus the scientific analysis of Darwin’s theory of evolution.)
* Currently, Folsom Parallax is only available as an ebook [Kindle Edition] on Amazon. If you prefer a paper-back book, please let me know by providing your name and contact information. You are not committing to purchase. This helps me decide whether or not to add a printed book to the ebook version.

Granite Veil
A Novel by Ralph Higgins
(This is an expanded version of Folsom Parallax)
A Story of Murder, Retribution, Incarceration and Redemption
In addition to the story in Folsom Parallax, Granite Veil gets into a detailed examination of the Theory of Evolution, which can be very valuable to anyone interested in the pros and cons of that theory, however it can also be somewhat tedious to a reader who may have little interest in the subject. This was the reason I wrote an abridged and less technical version of the story published under the new title, Folsom Parallax.
The abridged version of Granite Veil eliminates the scientific and intellectual challenges and is a quicker read. If you have read Granite Veil, there is no reason to purchase Folsom Parallax. Both books tell the same story. “Granite Veil” deals with counter arguments to evolutionary theory, as commonly taught, and presents very interesting and thought-provoking arguments.
If you enjoy “thinking” and considering alternatives to the prevailing philosophy and conventional “wisdom,” this book will provide a lot to chew on.

This book was originally written and translated for a Russian publishing company in the Ukraine, however, due to some “red flags” with Russian counterparts, I published it myself in the U. S. The book presents songs, Bible stories and short lessons presented in the following sequence: Creation, The Flood, The Birth of Jesus, The Life of Jesus, The Resurrection, A New Life.
The stories present a first-person narrative of prominent characters in each section with artwork by Gayle Higgins and original songs. Simplified piano arrangements, chord symbols for guitar or keyboard are provided for accompaniment and songs are written in easy vocal keys for children. This book is also available for bulk purchase.
